Position Summary

A growing food manufacturing organization is seeking an experiencedDirector of Safetyto lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs across multiple manufacturing locations in Ohio.

This highly visible leadership role will be responsible for establishing a strong, consistent safety culture across the organization while ensuring compliance with OSHA requirements, company standards, and applicable food manufacturing practices. The Director of Safety will partner closely with Operations, Human Resources, Quality, Maintenance, Sanitation, and site leadership to reduce risk, strengthen accountability, improve training, and drive proactive accident prevention.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on safety leader who is equally comfortable developing strategy, coaching leaders, conducting floor-level audits, investigating incidents, and engaging directly with employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and hands-onsafety leadership across multiple Ohio manufacturing locations
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide safety policies, procedures, programs, and training
  • Establish consistent safety expectations and accountability across all facilities
  • Oversee new-hire safety orientation and ensure qualification and training processes are active, thorough, documented, and effective
  • Lead and/or oversee training related to OSHA regulations, PPE, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), forklift safety, fall protection, MEWPs, confined space, electrical safety, Arc Flash, sanitation, GMPs, HACCP, and other applicable programs
  • Conduct routine facility safety audits, risk assessments, and workplace hazard evaluations
  • Lead serious incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up
  • Analyze injuries, near misses, trends, and leading/lagging safety indicators to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Develop proactive accident and injury prevention strategies
  • Maintain required safety records, training documentation, and regulatory compliance documentation
  • Partner with leadership to ensure corrective actions are completed and sustained
  • Support OSHA inspections, regulatory inquiries, and other safety-related audits
  • Coach supervisors and managers on safety leadership, accountability, incident response, and hazard recognition
  • Partner closely with Operations, HR, Quality, Maintenance, Sanitation, and Production to integrate safety into daily operations
  • Establish and monitor meaningful safety KPIs and communicate results and priorities to senior leadership
  • Promote employee engagement, reporting of hazards and near misses, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure safety programs remain practical and effective within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Travel regularly between Ohio facilities as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience will be considered
  • Progressive safety leadership experience within manufacturing required
  • Multi-site safety leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Food manufacturing, bakery, food processing, or similar high-volume production experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards
  • Experience developing and delivering both classroom and hands-on safety training
  • Demonstrated experience with incident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and accident prevention
  • Strong understanding of LOTO, powered industrial trucks, fall protection, confined space, electrical/Arc Flash safety, PPE, and other manufacturing safety programs
  • Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, sanitation, and food manufacturing environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and organizational skills
  • Ability to influence safety culture and accountability across multiple levels of an organization
  • Comfortable maintaining a strong presence on the manufacturing floor and working directly with employees and leadership
  • Ability to travel regularly between company locations throughout Ohio

Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA 30
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or similar safety credential
  • First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck Trainer
  • HACCP certification
  • Additional certifications related to LOTO, confined space, fall protection, MEWP, electrical safety, or industrial safety training
