What this role is all about:

We are looking for Safety Interns for Summer of 2022 in Appleton, WI and Lake Nordon, SD

The Loss Prevention Intern works closely with the Safety Manager and other members of the Plant Leadership team on various tasks and projects to help ensure plant compliance with all rules/regulations. The Loss Prevention Intern helps ensure safe building and equipment upkeep as well as modeling and providing training on safe behavior for all employees. Responsibilities will vary based on assignments and specific plant needs.

  • Learn about the Agropur business model and how to champion a system of improvements that will increase employee safety and health.
  • Acquire and apply current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, and applicable laws pertaining to dairy manufacturing.
  • Actively meet and speak with plant employees Gather, accurately document, and analyze data.
  • Collect follow-up data to determine the effectiveness of implemented process improvements.
  • Work effectively in teams, such as Safety Committees, as well as independently.
  • Assignments will vary according to plant needs but could include:
    • Validate Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
    • Validate Confined Space procedures.
    • Identify and implement ways to make safety procedures and information available to employees.
    • Assist with delivery of training sessions.
    • Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
    • Update training modules and quizzes.
    • Perform gap analyses for and draft new safety policies and procedures.
    • Ability to draft efficient but thorough policies and procedures, explaining technical details in plain language.
  • Assist with incident and near miss investigations to identify causes and implement corrective actions.

The Requirements (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Currently enrolled in an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree or Master's program in Occupational, Environmental Safety & Health; Risk Management; or related program as a candidate for graduation.

The Location:


Our US headquarters is based out of our Appleton, WI, office and is home to approximately 70 employees. While this location does not produce any product, our modern office area is bustling with employees from all areas of the business.

Appleton, WI is a vibrant community of 74,000, nestled along the Fox River and Lake Winnebago. Lake Norden:

Our Lake Norden, SD, plant is home to approximately 360 employees and boasts a brand new, state of the art cheese and whey facility. We produce mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, romano, asiago, and Monterey Jack cheeses as well as various whey streams.

The Lake Norden, SD, area is known for its beautiful lakes and outdoor activities. There are both small and large towns within the area with great schools and healthcare. You can also visit the Watertown Chamber site for more information on local events.
