Compensation: $70,000 - $85,000 annually
Reports To: General Manager and Senior Management
Position Summary
Agata & Valentina, one of New York City?s premier Italian specialty food stores, seeks an experienced Store Manager to lead our high-volume operation. The successful candidate will combine a passion for food with strong retail judgment, a hands-on approach, and the ability to set clear goals for department leaders.
The manager will guide daily store operations, develop department teams, and use sales and inventory results to improve performance. This role calls for excellent customer service, specialty food knowledge, and consistent standards for merchandising, cleanliness, and food safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and develop department managers and associates; set clear expectations and follow through on results
Provide exceptional customer service and resolve escalated guest concerns
Ensure products are stocked, prepared, packaged, priced, and displayed with accurate signage
Review department sales and adjust merchandising and staffing priorities to support store goals
Drive sales through strong product presentation, store cleanliness, and employee engagement
Oversee department inventory, ordering, product rotation, and waste control
Manage department schedules and coverage while monitoring labor budgets
Oversee daily store procedures and ensure teams follow company policies and food safety standards
Communicate operational priorities to department leaders and address staffing or product concerns
Train teams to anticipate customer needs and deliver knowledgeable, attentive service
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
Strong understanding of grocery and specialty food retail operations
Ability to coach, motivate, and hold department leaders accountable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of specialty foods, merchandising, and customer service
Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management abilities
Ability to analyze sales, inventory, and labor results and act on findings
Strong proficiency with basic retail computer systems, Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to analyze company reports to guide sound business decisions and operational improvements
Sound judgment in delegating work and adapting to shifting priorities
Initiative, dependability, and attention to detail
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in grocery or specialty food retail (required)
Previous store or multi-department management experience (required)
Strong understanding of store operations, merchandising, and inventory control
Familiarity with food safety and sanitation standards
Flexible schedule including nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays when needed
