Process Engineer

Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Our client is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to provide technical leadership and process engineering expertise across agricultural processing facilities. This position will serve as a technical authority for agricultural processing systems, bulk material handling, process equipment, utilities, and related plant systems.

The Process Engineering Subject Matter Expert will partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, safety, quality, and project teams to improve plant safety, reliability, throughput, efficiency, product quality, and operating costs. This individual will provide hands-on technical support for complex process issues while also leading engineering scope development, capital projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and technical standards.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience inagricultural processing, bulk solids handling, food or chemical processing, or comparable continuous process manufacturing, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems and translate technical requirements into practical plant solutions.

PRINCIPAL / ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for agricultural processing, material handling, process equipment, production systems, and supporting utility systems.
  • Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting, debottlenecking, reliability improvement, and process optimization across manufacturing and processing operations.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, safety, environmental, quality, and engineering teams to improve safety, compliance, throughput, efficiency, product quality, and operating costs.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for process upsets, root cause analysis, startup issues, and equipment or control system performance problems.
  • Review processes, procedures, and standard operating procedures to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance with plant standards.
  • Lead front-end engineering and scope development for capital, maintenance, reliability, compliance, capacity, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop project problem statements, alternatives, basis of design, process criteria, equipment lists, utility requirements, control philosophy, constructability considerations, process performance requirements, cost assumptions, and schedule inputs.
  • Maintain technical accuracy of facility documentation, including process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment lists, line lists, utility summaries, energy and mass balances, design criteria, operating envelopes, process safety documentation, and engineering standards.
  • Ensure field redlines are captured and drawing updates are completed so current engineering documentation remains accurate and available.
  • Develop equipment and process standards for manufacturing and processing systems, including rotating equipment, material handling, solids processing, heat transfer equipment, dust control, fire and explosion risk mitigation, and process safety safeguards.
  • Support Management of Change activities and ensure technical modifications are properly documented, reviewed, approved, and implemented.
  • Support site master planning and long-range technical planning by identifying process constraints, infrastructure requirements, code and permitting considerations, lifecycle risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide technical input for prioritization of strategic, compliance, reliability, capacity, and cost-improvement projects.
  • Monitor process performance and key operating parameters to identify root causes of losses and improve recovery, capacity, efficiency, and equipment effectiveness.
  • Use engineering analysis and plant data to develop recommendations for process changes, equipment upgrades, operating improvements, and standard work.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentoring to site engineers, maintenance leaders, operators, and project managers regarding process fundamentals, process safety, troubleshooting, and engineering practices.
  • Provide technical training and share process engineering best practices across multiple facilities.
  • Work with engineering firms, technology providers, OEMs, contractors, and other external partners to evaluate technologies, benchmark best practices, and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews, FAT/SAT activities, startup readiness, commissioning, and performance validation.
  • Support key Process Safety Management activities, including process safety information, Management of Change, operating procedures, process hazard analysis action tracking, and pre-startup safety reviews.
  • Ensure engineering changes are properly incorporated into controlled drawings, procedures, equipment files, and related technical records.
