Position Summary
The Director of Maintenance is responsible for leading the maintenance, reliability, utilities, facilities, and engineering support functions to maximize equipment uptime, safety, product quality, and operational efficiency. This position reports to the Vice President of Operations and is responsible for executing the maintenance strategy, managing maintenance personnel, and ensuring reliable plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop maintenance managers, supervisors, planners, and technicians.
- Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Establish performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Promote a culture of ownership and reliability.
- Drive equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Oversee CMMS, work order management, and spare parts inventory.
- Coordinate plant shutdowns and major maintenance activities.
- Standardize spare parts.
- Optimize inventory levels.
- Manage the maintenance operating budget.
- Ensure rapid response to critical equipment failures.
- Develop lifecycle replacement strategies for plant assets.
- Support capital projects and new equipment installations.
- Ensure OSHA, GMP, food safety, and environmental compliance.
- Lead root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage utilities including electrical, refrigeration, compressed air, HVAC, steam, and water systems.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor?s degree in engineering, mechatronics, industrial technology, or equivalent experience.
Experience
- 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
- 5+ years in maintenance leadership.
- Food manufacturing experience preferred.
- Technical competencies include PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, industrial robotics, pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems (480V), refrigeration, boilers, compressors, CMMS, and reliability engineering.
