Job Summary

The Controls & Network Automation Engineer is a critical, plant-based expert responsible for the development, reliability, and administration of the industrial control network and all associated automation systems. This role serves as the highest-level technical authority for complex electrical and controls troubleshooting, ensuring maximum operational uptime and continuous improvement across the facility. The successful candidate must be a highly motivated, solutions-oriented professional capable of driving technical projects and serving as a key partner to maintenance and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Industrial Network & System Administration

  • Design and Manage:Lead the design, implementation, and rigorous administration of the high-availability industrial controls Ethernet network, leveraging advanced knowledge of hardware and software.
  • Data Integrity:Administer and maintain all associated plant databases (e.g.,MSSQL, Microsoft Access) and automation software platforms (Rockwell, Wonderware, Ignition, ICIS).
  • ERP Integration:Collaborate with Information Technology (IT) teams to develop and maintain the data bridge connecting critical plant floor data to the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, enabling business intelligence.

2. Advanced Engineering & Project Delivery

  • Automation Solutions:Engineer, design, and implement reliable in-house automation solutions or manage third-party vendors to meet business demands. Project activities span the full lifecycle, includingElectrical Panel Design, Device Selection, Project Scheduling, Scope of Work definition, and Cost Estimation.
  • Reporting & Analytics:Generate insightful energy and production reports using industrial historians and specialized reporting tools (Wonderware Historian, SEEQ, ICIS).
  • Documentation Control:Maintain and update all essential automation documentation, includingPLC/HMI programs, electrical ladder diagrams, P&IDs, pincharts, and sequences of operationusing tools likeAutoCAD and Microsoft Visio.

3. Technical Support & Expertise

  • High-Level Troubleshooting:Serve as theSubject Matter Expert (SME)and the highest level of in-house technical support for complex, critical automation, electrical, and network break/fix issues.
  • Standards & Best Practices:Partner with the AEI Manager and cross-functional teams to develop, champion, and propagate best practices for controls engineering across the organization.
  • Training & Mentorship:Provide technical expertise and training to operations and maintenance personnel, elevating the facility's overall controls knowledge and self-sufficiency.
