Feedlot Cattle Feeder

Location:Howick, ONType:Full-time, PermanentReports to:OwnerSalary:Commensurate with experience About UsWe are a family-run, high-capacity beef feedlot focused on animal welfare, operational excellence, and team development. We’re hiring an experienced cattle feeder to join our team and support day-to-day feeding and animal-care operations. Key Responsibilities
  • Feeding and Nutrition— Mix rations, load and operate feed truck routes, deliver feed on schedule, and ensure accurate feed weights and batching.
  • Animal Health and Welfare— Conduct regular pen checks to monitor cattle behaviour, identify off-feed or sick animals, and report concerns to management; assist with administering vaccines, pour-ons, and medications under herd-health protocols.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance— Operate tractors, front-end loaders, tandem trucks and skid-steers; perform routine checks such as fluid levels and tire pressure and report maintenance needs.
  • Facility and Infrastructure— Maintain gates, water troughs, feeders and yards; assist with pen repairs and general yard upkeep.
  • Record Keeping— Maintain daily logs for feed usage, animal treatments, and mortalities as directed.
 Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience— 3+ years’ hands-on experience in a large-scale beef feedlot or ranch environment as a cattle feeder.
  • Technical Knowledge— Strong knowledge of cattle feeding programs, ration batching, and pen-checking techniques.
  • Licensing— Valid Class G driver’s license required; DZ/AZ is an asset.
  • Mechanical Aptitude— Able to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
  • Physical Requirements— Comfortable working in all weather conditions and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Communication— Able to follow direction and communicate feed and animal-health observations clearly to management.
  • Availability— Must be available to work every third weekend for feeding and to work extended hours as required during planting and harvest seasons.
