Industrial Refrigeration & Utilities Technician

Tyrone, PA | Monday - Friday | 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Weekend availability:As needed

Why Join Clemens Food Group?

This is an opportunity for a mechanically minded professional to take an active role in operating and maintaining the utility systems that keep our facility running.

You won?t be focused on just one piece of equipment. Your work will span ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, steam, boilers, HVAC, chillers, pumps, blowers, water treatment, and other critical utility systems.

If you enjoy understanding how systems work, diagnosing problems, and taking pride in safe, reliable equipment, this role offers the chance to put those skills to work every day.

The Impact You?ll Make

Reliable utilities are essential to our operation.

In this role, you?ll monitor system performance, complete scheduled equipment rounds, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot problems, and help keep critical infrastructure operating safely and effectively.

You?ll also play an important role in our safety programs, including Process Safety Management procedures and Hazmat emergency response.

Your impact is straightforward:help keep the systems behind the operation safe, reliable, and ready when they?re needed.

What You?ll Do

You?ll be responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting a variety of industrial utility systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems

  • Support compressed air, steam, and boiler systems

  • Monitor control-system parameters and complete scheduled equipment rounds

  • Test and adjust chemical levels for condenser water treatment and boilers

  • Perform system startups and shutdowns using established procedures

  • Complete routine maintenance, including filter, oil-separator, and oil changes

  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform repairs

  • Assist specialized contractors when additional support is required

  • Maintain and support HVAC equipment, scrubbers, chillers, heaters, pumps, blowers, steam traps, and valves

  • Participate in Process Safety Management procedures and requirements

  • Serve as a member of the Hazmat Emergency Response Team

  • Wear required protective equipment, including a respirator, SCBA, and/or Level A protective equipment when necessary

What Makes This Role Exciting?

Variety. You?ll work across multiple mechanical and utility systems rather than spending every day focused on the same equipment.

Problem solving. When equipment or operating conditions aren?t right, you?ll help determine what is happening and what needs to be done.

Hands-on responsibility. This role combines monitoring and system operation with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

Technical growth. You?ll gain exposure to a broad range of industrial systems while continuing to strengthen your refrigeration, mechanical, utility, and safety knowledge.

Meaningful responsibility. The equipment you support is critical to safe and reliable facility operations.

What We?re Looking For

We?re looking for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who is comfortable working around industrial equipment and following established safety procedures.

Experience operating or maintaining industrial refrigeration systems is preferred, particularly ammonia refrigeration. Experience with boilers, compressed air, HVAC, or other facility utility systems is also valuable.

Technical education, industrial maintenance training, or refrigeration-related certifications are preferred but are not the only indicators of capability.

Just as important is your ability to troubleshoot problems, learn technical systems, communicate with teammates, and consistently follow procedures in a safety-sensitive environment.

Skills & Mindset

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Understand mechanical and industrial utility systems

  • Approach troubleshooting methodically instead of guessing

  • Can monitor operating parameters and recognize when something doesn?t look right

  • Take procedures and safety requirements seriously

  • Are comfortable performing hands-on mechanical maintenance

  • Communicate clearly when conditions change or problems arise

  • Work effectively with teammates and outside contractors

  • Stay composed when responding to equipment or operational issues

  • Take ownership of your work and follow tasks through to completion

  • Are willing to learn and expand your technical knowledge

Because this position supports ammonia refrigeration and emergency response activities, you must also be willing and able to work in required specialized PPE and participate in applicable safety and PSM procedures.

Your Future at Clemens

This role provides exposure to a broad range of industrial refrigeration, mechanical, and utility systems. You?ll have the opportunity to deepen your technical knowledge while becoming a trusted resource for equipment that is essential to daily operations.

For someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, troubleshooting, safety, and continuously learning how complex systems operate, this position offers an opportunity to build valuable industrial utility experience while making a visible contribution every day.
