Position Summary

The Wastewater Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of MMPA's wastewater treatment facility in Constantine, Michigan. This role provides leadership to wastewater operations personnel, ensures environmental compliance, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborates cross-functionally to maintain reliable treatment processes that support plant operations.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead the daily operation and monitoring of the wastewater treatment system.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain required records, sampling, testing, and reporting activities.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop wastewater operators.
  • Support operator training, certification, and workforce development.
  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Investigate operational issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, and Environmental teams to support reliable wastewater operations.
  • Participate in capital projects, equipment upgrades, and system improvements.
  • Respond to operational upsets, environmental incidents, and emergency situations as needed.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities.


Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial wastewater treatment experience.
  • Experience with biological wastewater treatment processes.
  • Previous supervisory, leadership, or team development experience preferred.


Required Qualifications

  • Michigan Industrial Wastewater Operator Certification, or the ability to obtain required certification within an established timeframe.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment operations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret process and laboratory data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
  • Flexibility to support emergency response and after-hours situations when necessary.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Dairy, food processing, or manufacturing wastewater experience.
  • Experience with treatment technologies such as DAF, clarification, MBBR, anaerobic digestion, or dewatering systems.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies.
  • SCADA and/or PLC experience.
  • Continuous improvement or root cause analysis experience.
  • Experience supporting capital projects and equipment startups.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and elevated platforms.
