Position Overview
Reporting to the Production Manager, the Operations Area Manager/Supervisor provides leadership for production and material handling teams within a high-volume food manufacturing operation. This position is responsible for driving operational excellence across safety, quality, productivity, cost control, equipment reliability, and employee development.
Success in this role comes from coaching and developing teams, leading continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing Lean Manufacturing principles, and fostering a highly engaged, team-oriented culture. This leader must be comfortable working across multiple departments while maintaining strong relationships with hourly employees, maintenance, quality, engineering, and plant leadership. Flexibility to support various shifts as business needs require is expected.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop approximately 40 hourly team members
- Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, engagement, and continuous improvement
- Drive improvements in safety, food quality, productivity, equipment reliability, and operating costs
- Analyze production performance data and identify opportunities for operational improvements
- Lead Lean Manufacturing initiatives including Kaizen events and other continuous improvement projects
- Partner closely with Maintenance to improve equipment performance and minimize downtime
- Support food safety, quality assurance, and employee safety programs
- Manage production projects while meeting cost, quality, and schedule objectives
- Participate in budgeting activities and maintain control of labor and operational expenses
- Utilize performance feedback, coaching, and employee development to strengthen team capability
- Foster collaboration across Operations, Quality, Human Resources, Purchasing, and Engineering
- Promote a positive, feedback-rich work environment focused on long-term operational success
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent manufacturing leadership experience will be considered
- Minimum 2+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
- Food manufacturing experience preferred
- Demonstrated success leading hourly production teams
- Strong communication, coaching, and team-building abilities
- Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing tools such as Kaizen, 6S, SMED, SPC, or similar continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and manufacturing reporting systems
- Adaptable leader who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
