A rapidly expanding food company in San Diego seeks a dynamic leader to head our Quality Assurance and Food Safety division. The successful candidate will spearhead initiatives to integrate comprehensive food safety and quality protocols throughout the organization, ensuring alignment with both federal and state regulatory standards. This role requires a strategic approach to embedding quality culture across the plant, ensuring compliance with USDA and FDA directives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of SQF programs with an aim to achieve consistently high scores.
- Design, revise, and execute HACCP plans adaptable to evolving business needs.
- Maintain an organized library of QA documentation for seamless access and audit preparedness.
- Supervise manufacturing operations to guarantee adherence to SQF, SSOP, GMP, and HACCP guidelines.
- Define and enforce quality control specifications and processes for both current and development-stage products.
- Develop and deliver training sessions focused on enhancing quality and food safety awareness plant-wide.
- Ensure smooth compliance in label submissions for new product lines.
- Manage and document product specifications with precision and organization.
- Coordinate plant certification processes, including Kosher, Halal, Organic, GMO, and other standards.
- Lead third-shift sanitation crews to uphold rigorous equipment and facility hygiene standards.
- Mentor team members by providing opportunities for skill development and certifications.
- Conduct strategic hiring and provide constructive feedback while making staffing decisions as required.
- Ensure laboratory tests align with operational standards for swab testing, pH levels, and other critical factors.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor?s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in implementing and upholding food safety policies (GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, SQF), with a proven track record.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant food industry systems.
- A minimum of 10 years in a food industry QA leadership role, with at least 5 years experience within a USDA environment.
- Active certifications as an SQF Practitioner and HACCP qualified.
