Food Prep Associate
Position Summary
Agata & Valentina, one of New York City's premier Italian specialty food stores, is seeking a reliable and hardworking Food Prep Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist with daily food preparation, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and ensure that all food products meet our quality and freshness standards. We are looking for someone who works well in a fast-paced kitchen environment and enjoys being part of a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Wash, chop, slice, and portion ingredients according to recipes and preparation guidelines.
Assist with preparing salads, sandwiches, sauces, and other fresh food items.
Follow recipes and portion guidelines to maintain consistent food quality.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary food preparation area.
Properly label, date, store, and rotate food products.
Follow food safety and sanitation procedures.
Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing ingredients and supplies.
Operate kitchen equipment and utensils safely.
Work closely with kitchen staff to complete daily preparation tasks.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations.
Ability to follow recipes and instructions.
Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
Previous experience in food preparation, a restaurant, deli, or commercial kitchen preferred but not required.
Familiarity with kitchen equipment and basic food preparation techniques is a plus.
Willingness to learn and follow company procedures.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs, with reasonable accommodations where applicable.
Ability to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
