Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Floral Designer coordinates activities of workers engaged in ordering, processing, and selling of products, as well as maintains department standards while under the supervision of the Floral Manager by performing the duties listed below. Other duties may be assigned:
- Trains and coaches employee procedures and tasks for department. Under the direction of the Floral Manager is responsible for in-service training for all employees and documents all training.
- Authorized to open and close the department.
- Assures proper displaying and selling of department products to customers and advises customers on quality of flowers, methods of handling flowers and plants, and other factors affecting this perishable product.
- Responsible for all employees working on the same shift practicing the same techniques.
- Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of department.
- Maintains high profit margin in accordance to the approved pre-set budget and pricing schedule, which entails, but is not limited to: sales goals, cost of goods, expenses, price changes and waste management.
- Manages and assures proper displaying and selling of flowers, plants, and accessories within accordance to Bristol Gardens merchandising standards.
- Special events work with Floral Manager on creative and budget.
- Confers and plans arrangements according to customers’ requirements based on cost or selects appropriate standard design pattern.
- Trains and encourages all employees on floral design and customer relationship skills.
- Handles all customer complaints in such a manner as to assure repeat business no matter the complaint.
- Serves customers with a smile and willing attitude. Assures high sales through establishing relationships with customers to ensure repeat business.
- Follows safety work standards and reports any safety hazards to Floral Manager and/or Store Director.
- Conducts accident investigations and fills out all paperwork within accordance to Cal Osha SB 198.
- Maintains department under current health codes and Bristol Farms standards on sanitation and cleanliness.
- Works with employees to assure they are maintaining and practicing the same standards.
- Follows the employee handbook at all times, especially on service standards and appearance.
- At all times, meets and exceeds Bristol Farms standards in service, quality, and cleanliness.
Customer Service Skills
Floral Designers are expected to provide customer service that is extra ordinary and exceeds the expectations of our customers. They are required to follow established policies and guidelines that go beyond simply smiling and greeting customers. Going above and beyond encompasses attitudes, respect, and flexibility. Floral Designers are expected to have a positive “can-do” attitude; to treat others with respect; and easily adjust to changes in the workplace.
Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical preferred; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, or employees of Bristol Farms.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations that are unexpected. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to resolve conflicts in such a manner to create a win-win situation. Ability to analyze a variety of situations, think through a solution and implement the solution.
Knowledge of English
This is a customer service driven position. The candidate must have the ability to speak, read and understand English.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
