Job Title: Quality Assurance (QA) Technician

Position Summary

The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for monitoring and verifying food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements throughout production. This position performs required inspections, testing, CCP monitoring, documentation, and verification activities to ensure products are manufactured in accordance with company procedures, HACCP plans, GMPs, and product specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and document required CCP monitoring and verification in accordance with established HACCP plans.

  • Conduct pre-operational inspections, including visual inspections and ATP testing, prior to production.

  • Perform required in-process and finished-product checks, including pH, temperature, weight, torque, labeling, coding, packaging, and other product specifications, as applicable.

  • Verify production paperwork, product specifications, labels, packaging, and case labels before and during production.

  • Monitor and enforce employee compliance with GMPs, food safety, allergen, sanitation, and product-handling requirements.

  • Immediately identify, document, and escalate CCP deviations, missed checks, GMP violations, foreign material concerns, labeling errors, sanitation deficiencies, and other food safety or quality issues.

  • Place questionable or nonconforming product, ingredients, or materials on hold and ensure proper identification and segregation until disposition.

  • Review QA and production records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance and submit completed documentation within established timelines.

  • Perform environmental monitoring, sampling, equipment/instrument calibrations, and other QA verification activities as assigned.

  • Support product investigations, rework, inspections, product holds, and corrective actions as directed.

  • Perform designated QA Supervisor duties when assigned, trained, and authorized.

  • Communicate food safety and quality concerns promptly to QA and Production leadership.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify deviations from established requirements.

  • Ability to accurately complete and review food safety and quality records.

  • Ability to follow HACCP plans, SOPs, specifications, and written procedures.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and accurately use measurement and testing equipment.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to communicate concerns professionally and escalate issues appropriately.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Production and other departments.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

  • Willingness to speak up and stop production when a potential food safety or significant quality concern is identified.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

This position works primarily within a food manufacturing environment and may require:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.

  • Frequent movement between production, cooler, warehouse, sanitation, and QA areas.

  • Working in refrigerated, wet, noisy, or production environments.

  • Safely working around moving equipment, conveyors, forklifts, chemicals, and other manufacturing hazards.

  • Wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) and following all facility safety requirements.
