Schedule:Day Shift, 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM | 12-hour rotating 2-2-3 schedule
Reports To:Maintenance Supervisor
Additional Scheduling:Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime may be required based on business needs.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE HISTORY HERE

As a Controls Technician, you will help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and continuously improving electrical, controls, and automation systems. Using your advanced technical expertise, you will independently resolve complex equipment issues and collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, vendors, and contractors to improve equipment reliability, process consistency, and overall plant performance.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant electrical, controls, automation, and electromechanical systems.
  • Independently diagnose complex electrical, electronic, mechanical, and control system failures using structured root cause analysis.
  • Develop and implement effective corrective actions to restore equipment safely and minimize production downtime.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-based systems, including program diagnostics, I/O analysis, program uploads and downloads, and approved modifications.
  • Support Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and support HMIs and SCADA systems, including Wonderware, Intellution, or similar platforms.
  • Diagnose issues involving robotics, servo systems, variable-frequency drives, motion control systems, and automated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot PID control loops, heat systems, sensors, relays, instrumentation, and process control equipment.
  • Support bulk ingredient, refrigeration, and other plant process systems.
  • Diagnose industrial communication network issues, including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, and DH+.
  • Use electrical test equipment to identify circuit, wiring, and component failures across systems ranging from 24V DC to 480V AC.
  • Install, modify, test, and validate electrical wiring, controls, and automation components in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Support equipment fabrication, installation, commissioning, and system modification activities.
  • Execute Management of Change processes and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical and control systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, calibrations, inspections, program changes, and system modifications.
  • Use SAP or an equivalent computerized maintenance management system to manage work orders, parts, and maintenance documentation.
  • Support plant reliability, equipment uptime, Continuous Improvement, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, technical manuals, and engineering drawings.
  • Troubleshoot systems in explosion-proof and intrinsically safe environments, where applicable.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash, electrical safety, and other plant safety requirements.
  • Comply with GMP, food safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform scheduled safety and environmental inspections and help ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Identify and escalate safety, compliance, equipment reliability, or system design risks.
  • Collaborate with operators, maintenance technicians, setup technicians, engineers, vendors, and contractors to resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical guidance during equipment troubleshooting, installation, startup, and modification activities.
  • Train and mentor maintenance technicians, setup technicians, and equipment operators as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing technical training to remain current with evolving controls and automation technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE (MUST HAVE)

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational or technical training in electrical systems, electronics, industrial controls, or a related discipline, or at least five years of relevant controls or industrial maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and repair complex electrical, control, and automation systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLC diagnostics, ladder logic, and I/O troubleshooting.
  • Experience troubleshooting HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, sensors, relays, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of servo systems, VFDs, robotics, motion control, PID loops, and process controls.
  • Ability to safely troubleshoot electrical systems ranging from 24V DC to 480V AC.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to safely use electrical test equipment and general diagnostic tools.
  • Understanding of Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash, and industrial electrical safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting, make sound technical decisions, and implement corrective actions with limited supervision.
  • Strong root cause analysis, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Ability to work a rotating 12-hour schedule and remain flexible for nights, weekends, and overtime based on plant needs.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery, electrical systems, elevated areas, confined spaces, noise, and temperature variations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and perform hands-on troubleshooting for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAVE (NICE TO HAVE)

  • Technical certification, diploma, or associate degree in Industrial Controls, Automation, Electrical Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of PLC troubleshooting experience using ladder logic.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC hardware and software platforms.
  • Experience with Wonderware, Intellution, or comparable SCADA and HMI systems.
  • Experience supporting robotic or highly automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Modbus, and DH+ communication networks.
  • Experience troubleshooting refrigeration, bulk ingredient, heat, or other process control systems.
  • Experience with SAP or a similar computerized maintenance management system.
  • Experience executing Management of Change requirements in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of explosion-proof and intrinsically safe electrical installations.
  • Experience in food, bakery, consumer packaged goods, or high-volume manufacturing operations.
  • Experience training or mentoring technicians and equipment operators.

Work Environment:
This position is based in a manufacturing environment and includes exposure to moving machinery, energized electrical systems, industrial hazards, noise, and temperature variations. Work may be performed at elevations or in confined spaces. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn, and all electrical, plant safety, food safety, and environmental procedures must be followed.


Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation.
